Dr. Karen Cadiero-Kaplan
Past president of CATESOL and the current Director of the English Learner Support Division of the California Department of Education, and is a Professor of Education at San Diego State University. In her current role as Division Director, she oversees the Language Policy and Leadership Office and the Migrant Education Program Office, these offices address the policy, program and curriculum needs for English learners and migrant students, youth and families across the State of California. In addition, she has a range of publications concerned with the role of education and language policies in curriculum development and teacher's professional development for meeting the needs of English learners and diverse student populations.

Keira Kirby
Keira Kirby has taught in the private and public school sectors. Mrs. Kirby holds two teaching credentials: a multiple subject’s credential and a single subject Social Science credential. She has designed curriculum for the Independent Studies high school where she currently teaches: Electives courses, Physical Education, and English-Language Arts. In addition to teaching high-risk independent studies 7th-12th graders, Keira organizes professional development sessions at her school site and at her district. Keira has been a part of Common Core Professional Development since 2011, specializing in DOK, Close Reading, Common Core Reading Standards, and the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium.

Standards and Assessment Consultant; Consultant at Pearson Longman; Consultant and Author at Oxford University Press; Owner at Language Matters Education Consultants, LLC; an Ohio State University eCoach for pre-service bilingual teachers. She has recently completed chapters in both a Corwin and TESOL series on meeting the Common Core for English learners. She is a past president of New Jersey TESOL (NJTESOL-NJBE), and is currently on the Board of CATESOL as Conference Coordinator.
